About Me
Ava is a diligent and passionate Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner with a strong drive to help improve quality of life for people with disabilities. Having worked as a NDIS disability support worker for almost 4 years, Ava has a deep understanding of and appreciation for the decisive role that NDIS services have in reducing systemic barriers that prevent people with disabilities from achieving their personal goals. Ava has experience managing complex behaviours stemming from a range of disabilities, including schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, acquired brain injuries, intellectual disabilities and more. Before working as an NDIS practitioner, Ava had experience working with primary-aged children, gained through employment at an out-of-school care service and volunteer work at a local youth group. Ava has also completed two 500-hour placements as a requirement of her tertiary studies in social work. The first placement was at a youth crisis accommodation centre and the second was at a community mental health centre operated by the NSW Health department. Due to these various employment, volunteer, and placement opportunities, Ava has gained a multidimensional understanding of social disadvantage and how different social, economic, and interpersonal factors can intersect to restrict people's rights, freedoms, and access to resources. Ava has developed a diverse skill set for working with people of all ages, including children, young people, adults, and the elderly.
