About Me
Abbey worked as a support worker within the NDIS while completing her degree. Abbey has a degree in Criminology from Murdoch University and began her career working in the criminal justice sector with people transitioning into the community from long-term prison sentences. After 2 years in this sector, Abbey returned to the NDIS sector as a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner. Abbey enjoys working with clients with forensic backgrounds and complex co-morbid diagnoses. Abbey has a keen interest in supporting clients to learn alternative regulation techniques to reduce risks of harm, specifically, easy-to-implement grounding techniques. Abbey particularly enjoys writing Behaviour Support Plans and believes they are a vital part of positive behaviour support to support the client appropriately. Abbey has written behaviour support plans that have helped clients gain crucial funding and strategies for their support team to implement. Abbey enjoys working with clients in supported living, supporting them and their support workers to improve their quality of life and reduce risks of harm. Abbey utilises a trauma-informed, person-centred approach with her clients and focuses significantly on the client’s environment to reduce triggers for the client.
