About Me
James holds a Master of Social Work (Qualifying) postgraduate degree from the University of the Sunshine Coast and a Bachelor of International Hotel and Tourism Management from The University of Queensland. He has completed 1000 hours of industry experience, which has been a fantastic opportunity to grow, learn and practice his craft with a diverse range of people in the community. James has been utilising the Strength-Based Approach and Asset Based Community Development to deliver value to communities. For most of his placement and practice times, he applied relationship-based and developmentally focussed. He has experience working with some of the most vulnerable young people in high school and primary school settings. Using a Strength-Based Approach and the micro-method of community development, he used Dialogueue to start communicating, build relationships and develop trust. He always uses active listening skills to seek what the students are interested in, their needs, hopes, and aspirations. James has been awarded the Highest Achieving Student in Social Work Field Education by the Australian Association of Social Workers in March 2023. He has also been awarded the Student Leadership Award by the University of the Sunshine Coast in January 2023. He is bilingual in English and Chinese.
