💛Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024, ORS are embracing this year’s theme on “amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”.💛
Over 50% of ORS’ leadership and board members have lived experience of disability or care for a child/adult with disability. Their insight ensures strategic decision-making aligns with the needs and expectations of our clients and their supports and contributes to improved policies and procedures, training and development, and creates a culture of inclusion and belonging.
ORS are proud to support our staff with disabilities and those staff who care for children and/or parents with disabilities in achieving their career aspirations and goals and customise our positions where possible based on the strengths of the individual and their needs and circumstances through our flexible working arrangements, and strong training and individualised support.
We cannot emphasise how much value we receive from tapping into the lived experience of our staff across all roles within ORS to ensure the services we provide are not only effective but are delivered in a way that empowers our clients and supports their carers in ways that are meaningful to them.
⭐ORS looks forward to providing more leadership opportunities to our staff with disability or who care for others with disability through our many allied health and corporate service divisions in our 25 offices across Australia. ⭐

😟 Stress can have a profound impact on our physical and mental wellbeing. In this current climate, many Australians are experiencing heightened stress levels due to the increased pressures of the cost of living and the impact of this on our work, family, and personal life.
Physically, stress can lead to headaches, muscle tension, digestive issues, and weakened immunity. Long-term stress raises the risk of conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.
Mentally, stress affects mood, causing irritability, anxiety, and depression, and can impair concentration and memory, which further exacerbates pressures at work and home. Chronic stress may also lead to sleep issues, fatigue, and an increased reliance on unhealthy coping behaviours like overeating or substance use.
Managing stress effectively is essential for overall health, as prolonged stress can reduce quality of life and hinder personal and professional functioning.
👉In honour of #NationalStressAwarenessDay, here are some simple, evidence-based tips to help you manage stress effectively, which aim to improve resilience and support mental well-being.

As we highlight #WorldMentalHealthDay it’s important to draw attention to supporting neurodiversity in the workplace and occupational burnout. 🧠
How is this defined?
Occupational burnout is defined by WHO in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11; WHO, 2022) as a “syndrome conceptualised as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed” and is characterised by energy depletion, mental distance from one’s job and reduced professional efficacy.
It is well highlighted that both neurodiverse individuals and their neurotypical colleagues have personal characteristics that may perceived as equally vital for the implementation of work tasks, and which can also promote the occurrence of the phenomenon of occupational burnout, such as in relation to social abilities (Tomczak & Kulikowski, 2023).
With extensive experience in this area, ORS’ General Manager for Psychology Sarah Stewart shares some quick tips for employers facing challenges in this area.
Sarah also shares a very informative blog on ‘Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace’ with a more in depth look at all our tips 👉https://orsgroup.com.au/world-mental-health-day-supporting-neurodiversity-in-the-workplace/
If you or someone you know are seeking guidance in neuroaffirming workplace adjustments, or therapeutic support to manage operational burnout, ORS is available to help. Can't wait 🙂
Let’s go team!!!
💛 R U OK? 💛
Today we are highlighting our national day of action to remind everyone that every day is the day to ask, ‘Are you OK?’ and to start a conversation if we see someone struggling with life’s challenges.
Across ORS, and especially in our early childhood supports division, we understand the importance of helping to educate children on the challenges they are facing.
While children can't be expected to fix someone else's problems, we can encourage them to listen to what their friend is saying, show they care, and tell a teacher, school counsellor, or trusted adult if they are concerned about their friend. Check out today's video which shows them how to do that.
If you are seeking help for your child, or someone you care for, then please feel free to contact our Key Worker Early Childhood Supports team today at 1800 000 677 or visit our website to make a referral > orsgroup.com.au/refer-now

👼An ORS shout-out goes out today to one of our miracle workers at ORS – Megan Oliver-Peck!
Megan Oliver-Peck, Senior Speech Pathologist at our Wagga site, has been working with her client and his supports throughout the year. As supports were built up around him Megan was instrumental in supporting his safety and well-being with swallowing and understanding preferences around food and fluids.
🎀One of her team members put together this poem for her in recognition of her amazing dedication and work with this client in helping to transform his life.🎀

✨As allied health providers, ORS is passionate about transforming lives. We achieve this through our exceptional team and innovative approaches, such as Artificial Intelligence.
As we move forward, the collaboration between technology and human expertise in healthcare is an exciting prospect.
What do some ⭐️SUPERSTAR⭐️ clinicians say about using AI in healthcare/allied health?
"Rather than thinking of AI as an automated rigid robot, I like to think of it as a 'creative'. AI offers us the ability to change our perspective and engage with Clients on levels we have never dreamed of. Magic Spell Books targeting articulation, Play-based treasure hunts targeting literacy, and Making databases of native birds to practice conversation. AI is helping us to foster connection and build stronger relationships.”
📣Laura-Jayne van Alphen - State Manager for Speech Pathology
‘We are at the very beginning of this technological transformation, and I believe our greatest opportunity lies in being careful pioneers. With privacy and confidentiality as our foundation, we can make innovative leaps that truly serve our client's needs and allow us to focus on what's most important. We're not just users of this technology; we're early explorers helping to chart its course.’
📣Jake Spicer - Regional Manager for Positive Behaviour Support
“AI handles routine tasks, freeing me to focus on clinical accuracy, readability, and efficiency. At times, it even enhances the client experience – for example when I used AI to create sensory-rich, capacity-building stories for a blind client. The stories included details like the sound of birds chirping and the warmth of the sun on their skin, bringing the story to life.”
📣Ryland Cosstick - Team Leader for Positive Behaviour Support

Many parents face challenges when feeding their children, especially when picky eating habits take over. Don’t worry - YOU are not alone! 💞
In this blog post, ‘Fussy Eating in Children: A Dietitians Perspective’, ORS Dietitian Meher Vatvani explores why fussy eating occurs and shares one of the many strategies we use at ORS: the SOS (Sequential-Oral-Sensory) method. This method is based on research and can help expand your child's food choices.

Very informative Alasdair Grant and Jon Ansell. Lots of great information for employers and workers - thank you!!
What a joke. What happens in training only happens in the workplace if the employer/supervisor actually gives a shit.
December has been a MASSIVE month for the ORS Crew.🤛
Apart from helping our participants due to their experience and dedication our crew have:
🎨Had fun with team craft time
🤝Attended end of year get-togethers
🎯Attended Networking events
🏆Judged Christmas competitions
🧑🏽🎄Participated in Christmas dress challenges
🤔💭And some of the crew have reflected on the year that was.
🌟It’s safe to say that we have the BEST clinicians and support staff in the allied health space who all have one common goal – to achieve live changing transformations and always strive to be the best they can for all our participants across Australia. 🌟
